Why tablets sit between phone and laptop
A phone is thumb-typed: two digits, no tactile feedback, a keyboard narrow enough that every key is within reach without moving your hands. A laptop is finger-typed: ten digits on keys with real travel, resting on a home row you can find without looking.
A tablet on a table is close to the laptop case in geometry and close to the phone case in feedback. The two very different ways to type on a tablet

With an attached keyboard, expect to come within ten percent of your laptop score. The remaining gap is usually key travel and the slightly cramped layout that covers use to fit the device footprint.

Getting faster on a tablet

The second is prop angle. A tablet lying flat forces your wrists into a sharper angle than a laptop keyboard does, which costs accuracy and tires you faster. A case that raises the back edge even slightly makes a measurable difference over a few minutes.
If you are typing on a tablet for extended periods regularly, an attached keyboard is worth more than any amount of practice on glass. The ceiling for on-screen typing is genuinely lower, and no technique closes that gap.
